Hoodie Goodie Buddy project Sheffield based Cadence Works research company are undertaking a project to look at what
affects the relationships we have with our neighbours, or the way we think about others in our community? Does the way we
choose to travel around affects these things? They would like to explore these questions with people who live in or around,
or travel along Abbeydale/London Road. The idea behind the project is to talk to people who move in a variety of ways - driving,
walking, cycling or by bus – in the neighbourhood, about their experiences of the Abbeydale Road/London Road area. They
are interested in what people think about the physical aspects of the area (the layout of streets, the parks, the traffic
etc) but also any impressions they have of the people they encounter in the area. The next opportunity to get involved is
the ‘emotion mapping’ event on Saturday 7th November.
Email HGB@cadenceworks.co.uk to find out if there are any places still available. Cadence Works are also really interested in hearing from
individuals or groups who they could do focus groups with over the coming months so if this sounds of interest get in contact
via email, or phone Sophy on 07967 144 230, or visit the project blog at http://hoodiegoodiebuddy.blogspot.com/. November

Abbeydale Action Community groups in Abbeydale worked
hard over the summer to hold events for the community, including the Common Ground BBQ at St Peters and the Abbeydale Communities
Together (ACT) Community Picnic on Broadfield Park. Both of these events were funded by Shine on Sharrow grants and
gave local people the chance to come out of their houses and have fun in the sun with their neighbours. Consultation
carried out by members of ACT at their event also identified young people and the development of St Peters as key priorities
for community action with further consultation planned. Autumn will see both groups working together to explore a merger so
that resources are better shared and community activity strengthened in the Abbeydale area. ACT are
next meeting on Monday September 7th at St Peters, from 6pm to discuss "where next" and Common Ground are holding
their AGM, also at St Peters, on Thursday October 1st from 6.30pm. If you're interested in getting involved with
either of these groups then pop down and find out more! September

Sharrow Sporty Action The Sharrow Scorpions run by Sport Sharrow is becoming more and more popular. The young people
who attend the club were recently given the opportunity to have their first taste of competition when they took part in a
city wide tag-rugby tournament at Hillsborough Arena against other teams from across the city. The mixed team of both girls
and boys really enjoyed the event and although they did not win the tournament they really enjoyed it and did themselves and
Sharrow proud. The Sharrow Scorpions club is a starter club where young people can learn the basics of various sports throughout
the year. The club will be entered into a sports tournament where children can play sports against other teams if they wish.
This club is a great opportunity for young people to come along to a structured sports session, have fun, make new friends
and learn new skills. If you know of anyone aged 9-11yrs (Year 5-Year 6) phone Activity Sheffield on 0114 2734266 to find
out more, or come along to the session every Wednesday 5pm until 6.30pm at Sharrow Primary School. Sport Sharrow is also looking to develop a Boccia mini league for wheelchair users in the area and have approached
sheltered accommodation settings in the Central Area Community Assembly and are waiting for confirmation on taster sessions.
A taster session will start things off and will hopefully lead on to developing the mini leagues, so watch this space. Blastoff is a free local football training session which brings football to your doorstep! Sessions
are available to 11-16 year old boys & girls. Training sessions are run in Mount Pleasant Park & Hillsborough Park
on Wednesday evenings 6.30pm-8pm on alternate weeks between each park. There’s
also a new multi sports session starting at the Madina Community Centre. James has been working closely with the local mosque
to encourage more participants from ethnic minorities to take part. Sport Sharrow
will also be holding a summer launch on 9th July at ‘You Say’ Event at the Madina Community centre. To find out more about any of the above activities phone James Taylor,
Sport Sharrow Worker on 0114 2736496! June 2009

The Assembly is made up of the 12 Councillors serving those wards, and around 40 people attended to listen, ask questions and

residents; the development of a Community Plan by September 2009; the locations of 4 Bring Out Your Rubbish Days, one
in each ward (including Langdon St / Fentonville Street / top of Cemetery Road); and some initial funding allocations. These
include £20,000 for the continuation of the Sharrow Street Cleaner, in conjunction with Sharrow Partnership
and £5000 each for 3 advice services across the area, including Sharrow Citizens Advice Bureau. The next Central Assembly Business Meeting takes
place on September 24th. In the meantime, the Community Assembly Team will be attending community events across the

Graffiti busting
After months of work, John Street,
a real hotspot for graffiti (situated between London Road and Bramall Lane) is now being treated to a makeover as large business
buildings that have been heavily tagged with graffiti are being repainted, whilst smaller premises are having shutters and
walls cleaned and kerb edges weeded too! This project which has seen Sharrow Partnership, Street Force and the Probation Service
all come together is well under way with the aim for all the work to be finished by mid July. Whilst Street Force will be
removing the small-scale graffiti, offenders who are serving community service have been doing a great job of doing the large
scale painting. Sharrow Partnership originally set the project up in response to talking to local people and businesses around
John Street to find out their opinions about the state of the street and brought Street Force and Probation Service together
to look at how we could all tackle the graffiti issue. Local businesses have pledged to help maintain the new look of the
street and it’s hoped that this project will act as a template for further projects to be done together between Street
Force and the Probation Service. Local residents and businesses have already seen the difference and are really pleased with
how it looks. South Yorkshire Police’s Specials Team, the local Safer Neighbourhood Team and Sheffield Homes’
wardens have all helped in making this project happen. Thanks to everyone who has been involved! To find out more phone Sam
Killick on 0114 2584147. June

How Your Neighbourhood Works The How Your Neighbourhood Works course in Highfield is underway with 13 participants,
which includes a mix of residents from the Lowfield and Highfield neighbourhoods and workers who also cover this area, such
as Police Community Support Officers and Neighbourhood Wardens. The course is being held in the Madina Community Centre
and is being delivered in partnership between Sharrow Community Forum and OFFER as part of a year long programme of courses
for Sharrow Partnership. The course explores the structures and routes to influence in neighbourhoods and encourages
and supports residents to be active. Our final course this year will be in Sharrow at the Old Junior School starting
in September - if you would like information about this contact Ruth Passey on 0114 2584103. SCF
has been working with partners to explore how residents can be involved in the exciting development down at Lowfield green
space. Current plans to build a purpose built youth facility, floodlit football pitch, improvements to the park area
and play equipment have started to be discussed by project officers and residents. Look out for our information
stall at upcoming community events to make sure you're kept in the picture...contact Bev Nunn on 0114 2508384 if you'd
like more details. June

Go Team Sharrow!
Team Sharrow 2 an event to bring
together Sharrow ‘on the ground’ workers went well at The Old Junior School, with over 35 workers coming together.
Police community support officers, community engagement workers, librarians, school nurses, health development workers, community
foresters, as well as different local community representatives to name but a few all came to meet new and old faces, swap
information about what’s happening in the area and look at ways of all working together to benefit local Sharrow people.
Workshops and informal fun interviews were all part of the event with the aim of workers being able to let local people know
more about what’s happening in their area by knowing more about what other workers and services can offer. Team Sharrow
events are all about joining information up, so next time you see your local neighbourhood warden or librarian for example
and have a query, if they can’t help then they might well know a person or service who can. May 2009

Your issues, your votes Are you a local person and would like to have a say in what you think are priority issues for your
community in relation to safety and antisocial behaviour? Well now there is an opportunity to do this. Monthly Partners and
Communities Meetings (handily shortened to ‘PACT’) are meetings where
local people can meet with the police and other partners to talk about what they think are priority issues in the area and
as a local resident, decide by voting, as to which issues should be taken forward as a priority. Once a priority has been
decided for that month, the police then commit to attend to any call relating to any of these issues within the hour. These
priorities are then discussed and reviewed at the next meeting. The next PACT meeting for Sharrow residents is at The Old
Junior School, South View Road, 24th June at 6pm. To find out more phone Ruth Passey, Sharrow Partnership Community
Involvement Worker on 0114 2584103 or email ruth@sharrowcf.org.uk Or call your Safer Neighbourhood Team on 0114 296 3187. This month’s priorities are antisocial behaviour and nuisance motorcycles around a few different
areas in Sharrow particularly Mount Pleasant Park and burglary and vehicle crime around Highfield. To see these priorities
