The Lowfield Open Space situated between Aisline Road, Bramall Lane and Queens Road is set for a whole series of exciting changes!

The Future for Lowfield Open Space?

Lowfield Open Space gets the green light
The Lowfield Project has leapt over another important hurdle this week with the Council agreeing to the Lowfield Cabinet Report. This means that the plans to develop a state of the art youth facility, along with improvements to the Lowfield school and green space have got the green light to go ahead, conditional on a final ‘yes’ from the Big Lottery fund. The next step will be to explore how services can be delivered from the building and how the whole site will be managed. All of this work will form part of the vision to see the building up and running for Summer 2011! The Lowfield consultation led by Sharrow Community Forum has also come to an end. To download the Lowfield Consultation booklet that gives a summary of the findings click on the below link or drop in to the SCF office at the Old Junior School to pick up your own copy.

Lowfield Open Space
The Lowfield consultation has now come to an end. Thanks to everyone who has been involved with these discussions. Representatives from the Lowfield young person’s steering group who have been at the heart of these consultations recently attended the Central Community Assembly Briefing to let local Councillors know their views on this exciting project, which will see developments to the green open space and the building of a state of the art facility for young people between Aisline and Queens Road. Their comments were very well received by local Councillors who thanked the young people for taking time out to attend this meeting. The next big date for the project’s development will be the 24th February when the Lowfield Report will go to Cabinet to see if Councillors support the continuation of the project. Watch this space to find out the result!    If you want to know more information about the Lowfield project, press click and control on this link to find out more - http://sharrowaction.blogspot.com/2009/10/lowfield-my-place-consultation.html

Lowfield Open Space

At present the site includes a park, playing field and playground and is also the location for Lowfield Primary School. Thanks to a recent successful bid to the Big Lottery, plans are afoot to transform this whole site.  The proposed developments aim to provide the building of a world class youth facility providing positive activities for young people, environmental improvements to the park, including a brand new state of the art sports pitch, new facilities for play, as well refurbishments to the school. We have been talking to a range of people about Lowfield and plans have been changed and adjusted in line with what has been said, including the need for a greater emphasis on cricket and other sports, the need to ensure a range of activities for girls, innovative play opportunities, a community garden, a family-friendly environment and many more ideas.  These plans and proposals are our attempt to achieve the best outcome for all concerned.  Now we want to broaden the discussion and ensure that Lowfield is used and enjoyed by as many people as possible. Read on to find out about some of the proposed plans and how you can get involved and have your say…..

The Peoples’ Place

The Peoples’ Place, named by some of the young people involved in the consultation, is the working title for the exciting state of the art building which is set to deliver lots of fantastic opportunities and activities for young people across the Area.
The Peoples’ Place is being developed and designed with young people at the heart of the consultation. The facility will offer a wide range of sports, arts, music activities and will also be a centre for several youth support services. The details of what will be on offer has not yet been decided but some ideas put forward include space for dance and fitness, a teenage gym space, a chill out zone and café, as well as a computer suite and performance arts space and more….  The building will aim to give young people the opportunity to develop new skills and interests, whatever their background and give young people a chance to experience a wide range of positive activities.

Lowfield Green Space
The park and green space will also see the creation of an outdoor multi-use sports pitch, along with improvements to the green areas including innovative play provision from the central government funding ‘playbuilder’ initiative. Through creative design we will make a feature of the open green space to encourage a range of informal activities to take place.

Lowfield School
Developments to Lowfield School are also set to take place as part of the bigger project, which could mean a newly refurbished hall, dining room and kitchen to be used by pupils at the school and hopefully the wider community.

Getting Involved...
We’re holding a series of walkabouts and focus groups that will showcase proposed plans and exhibitions and provide opportunities for discussion to answer these questions:

What would attract you to the site and its facilities?

What would discourage you from using the site?

How can local people make the most of Lowfield Open Space?

If you would like to get involved, have suggestions and ideas for these questions, or just want to know more, phone Ruth Passey. Sharrow Partnership on 0114 2584103 or email
