Going green Grow Sheffield’s ‘Imagined Winter Garden Trail’ which took place
on 12th December was a real success, with over a hundred people taking part in following the trail round the streets of Sharrow.
As the sun came out, people had chance to see a range of different Sharrow gardens and growing spaces in a new light. Artist
Bob Levene worked with five local growers to create artworks in the gardens, backyards and unused spaces in the neighbourhood,
which formed the backbone of the trail and was on show for one afternoon only. Thanks to all those who helped out and took
part in the trail and good luck with planting your rocket seed prizes. January 2010

Distinctly Sharrow Well done to all those who took part in the
Distinctive Sharrow Treasure hunt which took participants all round the nooks and crannies of Sharrow. The lucky winner Ella
Havard received a signed Sheffield United football shirt, with runners up Adrian Woudstra and Josh Christie winning a webcam and wireless dongle respectively, kindly donated by local I.T company ESP Projects.
As ever the Distinctive Sharrow Action Group has a whole host of interesting and creative projects on the go. One of
these projects is to create an interactive art trail through Sharrow, with the help of Sheffield Hallam Students. The aim is to link places in the neighbourhood together,
draw people’s attention to the exciting things that are happening in Sharrow and its unique character. The group are
asking local people to help with these workshops by showing the students the things they love about Sharrow, its places, spaces
and hidden gems and work with them to develop pieces of art from this. Workshops will be on 19th and 26th Feb from 12:30pm - 3:30pm at The Old Junior School. The Distinctive
Sharrow Action Group is made up of people living and working in Sharrow who are interested in Sharrow‘s built environment, it places and spaces and is always looking for new members. To find out more
click on this link - http://sharrowaction.blogspot.com/ They’ll be having a DS social on Wednesday 24th Feb at 6pm at The Old Junior School

Sharrow Community Hub Thanks to all of you who contributed to the Community Assembly consultation
on the Sharrow Community Hub late last year. The Community Assembly has received much more feedback from local people
than was expected and key messages are being pulled together. As well as the responses needed for ‘number crunching',
there were lots of detailed comments and views from people on the issues relating to this project. This will
give Councillors a full picture of what local residents, people who use the services and partners have said. Information
on the feedback received and next steps will be circulated when they are available. If you want to
make sure you are on the contacts list for updates, please send your details to Rob Ward on Rob.Ward@sheffield.gov.uk January 2010
Speaking up Could you help the voices
of Sharrow be heard as part of the central ward of the city? Community
Assemblies are all about listening to the views of local people and helping Councillors to make good decisions based on this
knowledge. You can let them know what is important to you by sending an e-mail or letter, picking up the
phone, or coming to a community event, You Say Roadshow, or You Choose event. Click on this link
to find out more – http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/in-your-area/community-assemblies/central#team They also work closely with partners through a quarterly Partner Panel meeting, which brings together
Council officers, the Police, health colleagues, the universities, football clubs and voluntary sector colleagues.
These meetings are a chance to consider agenda items which will go before the Assembly, check joint progress on the
Community Plan and to share information and future developments. Currently there are two new voluntary
sector reps for the Hillsborough/Walkley part of the Assembly, but they need two more for the Central/Broomhill wards. Are
you part of a voluntary, community or faith group in the Sharrow area, with time to attend and contribute to a quarterly daytime
meeting? If so, please get in touch for an application form. The closing date is 15th March
15th with informal interviews on the afternoon of 24th March at the Old Sharrow Junior School, Sharrow Lane. January 2010

Imagined Winter Garden Trail is a chance to see the gardens and growing spaces
of Sharrow in a new light. It will play with and awaken you to the unused or neglected spaces in
our neighbourhood. It shares the visions, achievements and memories of some of Sharrow's vegetable growers and is also

Spreading the word South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue and South
Yorkshire Police have been out and about recently giving a whole series of talks to school children in the local area about
the dangers of fires and the effects of antisocial behaviour. Steve Vinson who led the project said that ‘it had
been a successful initiative which was really enjoyed by the children involved and a good example of effective partnership
working’. December 2009
Hit for Six Sport Sharrow recently ran an indoor cricket initiative called ‘Hit for
Six in the Community’ for young people aged 8-13yrs in partnership with Sheffield Cricket Academy and other key partners
in the area. Community training sessions and school taster sessions were delivered by the Sport Sharrow team to
promote the indoor tournament, with the actual tournament taking place at Sheffield United Cricket Ground on Sunday
22 November. The event was a real “hit” with over 50 young people from the Sharrow and Neither Edge area taking
part. Due to the success of the initiative it is hoped to run another tournament in February so watch this space. For further information please contact James Taylor Sport Sharrow Development Officer on 0114 2736496. December

Lowfield Open Space –
everyone’s talking! Consultation with local people over plans for the Lowfield
Open Space (situated between Aisline Road and Queens Road) has been a real success, with lots of people keen to get their
views across about the developments to the space, which could see groundbreaking landscape gardening taking place, along with
the creation of a state of the art youth facility building and a brand new sports pitch. Thanks to everyone who has taken
time to tell us their thoughts and help shape the Lowfield vision. Findings are now being collated and this information will
feed into the Cabinet Report presently being developed. To find out information phone Ruth on 0114 2584103 or email ruth@sharrowcf.org.uk Keeping on the Lowfield theme, Paul Scriven, Leader of Sheffield City Council recently met up with the
Lowfield Young people’s steering group to find out their thoughts on the plans and how they’ve been involved.
David Powell, 18 from Nether Edge said ‘it was an interesting meeting because someone of high status sat and listened
to us as young people. He took on board our views and didn’t judge anything we said.” The
same group went on to organise a bonfire event at the Hub in Sharrow to find out what other young people in the area thought
about Lowfield plans. Supported by the Sharrow Partnership ‘Shine on Sharrow’ fund, the evening was a real success
with lots of fun and food on offer. December 2009
